Twenty years’ time is a long period but not so in the life of an institution. Much
before the establishment of the school in 1994, Rev. Gurudev Brahmrishi
Vishwatma Bawra, the inspiration behind the school, imagined the
establishment of a temple of learning in the serene setting of this part of the
Himalayas somewhere on the banks of rhythmic River Vipasha and his long
cherished Wish was fulfilled in the year 1994 in the month of March, when this
temple of learning became a reality in the form of Brahmrishi Mission School.
The establishment of Brahmrishi Mission School has an idea, a philosophy
behind it. In the Words of Brahmrishi Vishwatma Bavvraji himself, "It is painful to see our younger
generations being alienated from our cultural and social life in process of being educated. Acquiring
education has become a very costly venture and a gradual process of being denationalised. It breeds in
the young raw minds a false sense of superiority and a hatred for the poor illiterate mass of our
countrymen... sense of alienation that takes root in them during the process of education festers into a
malignant growth which disintegrates our national life. Brahmrishi Mission School aims at facing the
challenge." Brahmrishi Mission Schools salient feature is therefore the provision of modern education
based on Indian culture and philosophy. And the School has been Well received by people around.
The School started with 55 students in l994 and has now above675 students on its rolls. The School was
affiliated to CBSE New Delhi. In the beginning the School had only four classes, i.e. from LKG to Class II.
One class was subsequently added every . The School was upgraded and affiliated with CBSE up to
Senior Secondary level. It was affiliated to CBSE as secondary School in the year 2001 and has been
upgraded to Senior Secondary level from 2008.
The school was started in and old building with hardly five rooms usable for school purposes. But at
present, the School has two additional new blocks of buildings housing a spacious library stocked with
about 15 thousand books and subscribing to fourteen periodicals. Separate Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Maths laboratories, computer room, sports room, administrative office, principal and manager's office,
table-tennis hall, staff room and twenty one classrooms are some other features.
On the games and sports front, the School has cemented basketball court, volleyball grounds, badminton
court, cricket practicing pitch and enough space for athletics. Our students participated in the CBSE
Cluster Athletic Meet held at Una for the first time in 2003 and won three medals: one silver and two
bronze. Then onwards there has been no looking back. Every year our students participated in relevant
Cluster Zonal Athletic Meets and have bagged medals. For the physical and mental health of the
students the School has regular Yoga and meditation classes. The cultural aspect is also well looked
after in the School. The School is divided into four houses: Aryabhatta, Chanakya, Kargil and Vipasha,
signifying aspects of science, polity, defence and environment. The cultural competitions are arranged to
inculcate a sense of competition, co-operation and achievement amongst the students. Classical music,
classical dance and art and craft are essential parts of the curriculum to engage the young minds in
useful and sublime pursuits.
This School has been lucky to get qualified, efficient and dedicated staff to guide the students on,
academics, sports and culture throughout this period. Under their able guidance, students participated in
various State and National level competitions and brought laurels to the School. The School has been
practicing Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) of the students since its very inception, though
the system was introduced by the CBSE in 2003-2004. Regular fortnightly tests are held in all the
subjects, and 20% weightage is given to these tests in the final results of a student. Due importance is
given to participating student in cultural activities, attendance and behaviour to student. All Round Best
student in each class. Achievement of students are highlighted in the Annual Prize Distribution .
However, the development of an institution is an unending process. Very little has been done and much
remains to be achieved. We have plans to construct separate boys and girls hostels, multipurpose hall,
staff quarters, tennis court and much more.
I am sure with the grace of God, all these, one day, will become a reality. However, our aim is to make
this institution a citadel of highest learning as we take education as a mission and not a profession. And
the journey goes on...
